I would try them and see, but they are very old.. they used to be great! ..and still are if she's never heard them before.. but as far as I know played out. You may get busted on them, which can be an opportunity to get used to social pressure, where you have to think quick on your feet. Depends on how you look at it.

Why when I talk so much about being genuine do I think that it's ok to run some bullshit routine or opener?

I look at it this way.. It's just a fun, casual, and low pressure way to give her the chance to get to know you a little before making a judgement to rule you out. It gives you a chance to discover what she's about and see if you actually like her personality in addition to her looks.

Ok, so considering that statement.. what is a good way to think about routine generation? An opener is just a routine for getting interest and starting the conversation. A routine being an interesting story let's say told in a captivating and charismatic way.

Watch the movie Comedian by Jerry Sienfeld. It's a documentary that follows him as he goes back into the stand up comedy circuit after the Seinfeld TV show ended. He develops his material by first getting an idea, and then field testing it. It's very insightful.

In order to become a great storyteller, or a charismatic speaker you have to develop that skill.. by storytelling, and speaking to people. While you are working a story into a routine it might flop consistently at first. You know when you are doing it right as everyone gives you the same good reaction, like clockwork. Once you have the skill it's easy to spin almost anything into an opener.. or tell virtually any story and it will get a good response.

The canned routines such as the ones you posted are good because they have been proved to work, when the delivery is done right. So you know that you need to work on delivery if you are not getting the desired reaction. It's not the material. Unless they bust you on it, because they have heard it before :)

The canned routines also can teach you how to create your own material by looking at the structure, and principles within those openers and routines.

I like the idea of this opener, as you can expand further;

• If they say yes, they are a bad person… You could then ask, “So does that make you a Bad or Good person?”
• If they say no, they are not a bad person… You could then ask, “So you’re one of the ones that would keep the wallet then…”

Can see the potential if done right, you could open the set, getting all the set involved.  Where would you go after this initial opener?
